I have a copy of his immigration record from New York. His last residence before leaving was Warfhuizen, , Netherlands. His ship left from Rotterdam in 1904. He sailed aboard a steamship named the S. S. Rotterdam which came into New York Harbor, and docked near for the begining journey through Ellis Island on June 12, 1904. He came to this country on tickets purchased, and sponsored by his brother Gerrit who had arrived in Kalamazoo four years earlier with similar help. Arriving withWalter was his younger brother Barney. When they arrived they were 18 and 16 years in age respectively.

Approx. 1897 at the age of 12 He immigrated to the United States by stowing away on a ship. He was caught and had to work on the ship the rest of the way to New York. This was told to me by his daughter Corinne Helen Hoogacker my great-great Aunt.
She does not know for sure if he ever became a naturalized citizen or not.
